Soluble fiber, not omega-3, is the reason why chia seeds are healthy for us, March 8, 2013

The short-chain omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid, is close to useless in improving our health. The average American can convert only about 3% to 5% of it into what he or she really needs, the phospholipid-based long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. So what are the real reasons why chia seeds are healthy for us?

(1)Chia seeds are high in soluble fiber. Soluble fiber partly blocks the absorption of calories from fat. Also, soluble fiber feeds the good bacteria in the human digestive tract and greatly increases their numbers. The good bacteria manufacture beneficial chemicals which (1)kill the bad bacteria, (2)lower blood pressure, (3)cause weight loss, (4)prevent cancer, (5)prevent clogged arteries by improving cholesterol numbers, and (6)prevent constipation.

(2)Chia seeds are high in lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens that prevent heart disease, cancer, and many other killer diseases. To derive the full health benefit from lignans, we only need to eat an extremely, extremely, extremely small amount of chia seeds or ground flaxseeds every other day.

(3)Chia seeds are high in phytate. Phytate is a powerful antioxidant that prevents heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and many other killer diseases. Phytate partly blocks the absorption of calories from starch and protein. Phytate partly blocks the absorption of toxic heavy metals such as mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium. Phytate partly blocks the absorption of iron, which is a cancer-causing and artery-clogging pro-oxidant. Phytate is greatly helpful to diabetics by partly preventing the breakdown of starch into glucose. Phytate slightly reduces the severity of flatulence.

(4)Chia seeds are high in phytosterols. Phytosterols partly block the absorption of cholesterol from our intestines by mimicking the chemical structure of the cholesterol molecule.

Product of Paraguay.

Chia Seeds the Amazing Super Food, July 27, 2013

I had heard that Chia seeds were very healthy and they contained a lot of good things. I was scooping them in smoothies, and yogurt. Since that time, I did more research and found some interesting info. They are full of omega 3’s. They give you energy. They expand 12 times there size if you use them correctly. They contain protein as well as fiber. 1 tbsp equals the protein of 1 egg. They help to regulate cholesterol. The list goes on and on. Something very helpfl to people who buy the seeds is in preparation. I was going through them quickly because I was using them incorrectly. Here is the correct way: For every tbsp you scoop out you add 1/2 to 3/4 cups of water depending on how thick you like it. I usually do 2 tbsp and 1 cup and 1/2 water. Then you leave the seeds in the water for 30 minutes before ever using them. After using them, store them in a container in the refrigerator. They will become like a jelly like pudding. They will last in the fridge for 2 weeks and you can scoop out tbsps and add them to all kinds of foods to get the health benefits. They don’t have any taste so they blend into everything. Since the 2tbsp grows 12 x because it absorbs the water, it will last a lot longer and you will be getting a great deal more benefit from them. i am involved in a marathon walk/run training program. I was going on a longer run of 10 miles and needed something in my system that would give me energy but not cause a need for a bathroom trip along the way. I used the chia seeds for fuel in the form of a pudding with a piece of banana and stevia. It worked great. When you buy chia seeds, keep in mind why you are buying them. It is not for the taste. They don’t have a taste. IT IS FOR THE AMAZING HEALTH BENEFITS. As far as the Nutiva brand, I am very happy with it. Just remember to order organic chia and stay away from anything made in China.

I downloaded and installed this to get the $2.00 mp3 credit. When I launched it, it reset my kindle as if it were brand new. All settings and favorites gone. When I rebooted my Kindle I had to register it, then every book and app I own showed up on the carousal. I own hundreds of books! What a disappointment.

Downloaded this onto my Samsung phone yesterday and the process was pretty tedious and lengthy. First made me download the Amazon app store THEN allowed me to get this. Considering I was sitting outside a business where I wanted to redeem a Local voucher that was sitting in my account but didn’t have in my purse, I didn’t really have any choice.

It probably took about 10 minutes from start to finish including changing settings in my phone security to allow Unknown apps, wait for the App Store to download and install, find the AmazonLocal app, wait for it to download and install and then navigate to the vouchers. If you already have the Amazon App Store on your phone, a big portion of this time wouldn’t apply to you.

Once the app was active on the phone, it was very simple to find the vouchers and I was successful in using my very first digital AmazonLocal voucher! I haven’t used it to browse for new voucher opportunities because I don’t use my phone for purchases — I’m a dinosaur and I use my computer for that!

One thing I did notice is that since I installed this, I can no longer turn off Mobile Data on my phone. I’m still trying to figure out how to do that since it took away the off/on function on the screen button. Since my phone is Android and Androids chew through battery power like nobody’s business, this could be a big enough issue that I would have to ultimately uninstall it. But I’ll update this review should it come to that.

If you use AmazonLocal vouchers, this is a great little app to have. Make sure you have a little time available when you go to first install it though because of all the hoops you have to jump through!

DO YOR REASEARCH FIRST!!!!, July 20, 2013
By

This review is from: Amazon Local (App)
A warning to all, do your reasearch before purchasing anything through Amazon Local!!!

I have been a loyal and satified Amazon customer for years, in large part becuase of the customer service and the way in which they vet and stand behind anything they sell through their portal. Unfortunately that same level of care and concern does not exist with Amazon Local Deals.

I purhcase a whole house duct cleaning package from Quality Air LLC (800 – 653 – 7022, please be careful, they sell on other social sites under different names). After waiting 2 months for an appointment, the 2 man team showed up and proceeded to aggressively upsell my wife on a host of dubious services (mold elimination) and made claims that the number of vents we had exceeded the offer (even though the voucher clearly states “unlimited” vents. Now while all of that isnt ideal, it’s something that isnt all that unusual. The really bad part is when these jokers left, my AC compressor no longer worked. I have been calling and emailing in an effort to reach the the company but have had 0 success. The calls are answered by an automated system and you are put on an endless loop with no ability to leave a message. Suspiscious now that a company that calls itself “Americas Favorite Duct Cleaning Service”, I started to do some digging on line and there are a ton of negative reviews, all with similar stories.

So everyone, please be careful of the deals on Amazon Local – just becuase the service carries the Amazon name, does not mean that you can expect the same service and quality you are used to. speak with friends and family to find the best local service people.

Augusta Training Tank, July 28, 2014
By

This is a great top for weight training.
It wicks away sweat quickly and has an unrestricted fit yet still has a nice look.
I wouldn’t mind a higher neckline but this doesn’t show too much as it is. The length is perfect- not ridiculously short like so many tanks and not so long as to be a hinderance and the arm holes are big enough to allow movement but not restricting. I will be buying more!

I ordered 3 of these tank tops for scrimmages (I play roller derby) i got white, black and red. The price CANNOT be beat! I’m typically around a L/XL, but I ordered the XXL and am happy with the looser fit!
